On January 2, 2017 Aryan Sinanan raised the Trinidad and Tobago flag at the base camp on Mt. Everest. The 29 year old Mr. Sinanan, originally from Fishing Pond near Sangre Grande set out on this adventure on December 25th, 2016, spending his Christmas and New year climbing. It took him eight days to climb up and four to getback down. More proof that we are indeed a nation of world travellers.

The main climbing season on Mount Everest is April and May each year. Since records began, only 15 climbers have made it to the summit in Winter.

This is because temperatures at Mt. Everest summit are always below freezing, and during January temperatures average -36° C (-33° F), and can drop as low as -60° C (-76° F). The clothing shown in the photograph does not match Mt Everest weather of extreme cold, high winds, and lethal lack of oxygen. .

The average time from arriving at Base Camp to reaching the summit is 40 days. On most climbs, Sherpas are needed to do the heavy carrying as the visitors' bodies are not acclimatized to the high altitude.

Beginners need about two or three years of adequate climbing to qualify for Everest.

In 2017, Nepal issued 372 permits to persons who wanted to climb Mt Everest. You can check who is
on the list at Nepal's Tourism Department.
