TTAO Scholarship Programs


The Trinidad and Tobago Association is honoured to have the trust of benefactors and sponsors to offer a number of scholarships in the Ottawa Community.

The 2026 TTAO Scholarship Application Process is now open! The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday, June 5, 2026. See below for more information on the scholarships that we offer, including guidelines, applications and past winners.

2026 SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW

  • A.T. Tolley Afro-Caribbean Female Scholarship Award is sponsored by a Trinbagonian who came to Canada many years ago, received assistance while pursuing her studies, and has now decided to pay it forward with 2 X $2,500 scholarships.
  • C.L.R. James Scholarship sponsored by The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Ottawa, is named for the world-famous Trinbagonian national, cultural historian, cricket writer and political activist, who was a leading figure in the Pan African movement. Value: $1,000.
  • NEW! Merle Solomon Scholarship is named for a Past President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Ottawa. Merle Solomon was instrumental in the establishment of The TTAO Scholarship program. The 2026 scholarship is sponsored by 3's Company and valued at $1,000.
  • Dr. Sade Francois Scholarship is sponsored by Dr. Sade Francois who was the recipient of the C.L.R. James Scholarship in 2015. Immediately upon graduation, she decided to pay it forward by awarding an annual $1,000 scholarship.
  • Walker Family Scholarship is sponsored by Dr. Alfredo Walker, Stacia Braxton-Walker and their family. The winner of this scholarship will be awarded $1,000 each year for the duration of the course of study (to a maximum of four (4) years). THIS SCHOLARSHIP WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2027-2028
  • Nazru Deen Scholarship is sponsored this year by Mrs. Beatrice Deen and the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Ottawa, the scholarship is named for the late Nazru Deen, a school Superintendent and Principal with the now defunct Carleton Board of Education. The scholarship is awarded to a student of Naz' Alma Mater, the Vistabella Presbyterian School, Trinidad and Tobago, who has been successful in the SEA exams and will enter Secondary school in September 2026. (APPLICABLE TO RESIDENTS OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO ONLY)

None of the scholarships with the exception of The Walker Family Scholarship are automatically renewable.

Please pay specific attention to the A.T. Tolley Afro-Caribbean Female Scholarship and the Dr. Sade Francois Scholarship for Young Black Women, as in addition to the overall requirements for the scholarships, there are specific applicable criteria. If applying for these scholarships, see Appendix A of the Scholarship Guidelines document.

Note that applicants need only submit one application form to be considered for all scholarships but can only be the recipient of one.
