Condolences to our Dearly Departed Friends (Merle Solomon, Jacqueline Sue Wang Dickerson)

Dear Members and Friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of two profound losses within our community. At a time of year when warmth, family, and togetherness hold special meaning, we are reminded of how sharply grief can change everything and make the world feel quieter. The passing of a beloved mother, Jacqueline Sue Wang Dickerson, is a sorrow made even more tender on Christmas Eve. Her love shaped the life of Anne-Marie Bostic in ways only a mother’s love can; raising her to be the type of daughter who works hard to support her community and be there for everyone. Our thoughts are with the family as they navigate this difficult time, carrying both memory and absence in equal measure.
We also mourn the loss of Merle Solomon, a Past President of the TTAO (1987-1989), whose leadership, dedication, and vision continue to echo through the work we do today. Her ambition to take the TTAO to a higher level was foundational and deeply human, rooted in service & community.
Their legacy is stitched into the fabric of the TTAO: Merle’s belief in what we could accomplish together and Jacqueline’s daughter’s work in our community here in Ottawa. We remain grateful for the path they helped build. Our memories of them is a blessing and we hold space in our hearts for those experiencing sorrow. We will honour their lives by continuing the work, kindness, and spirit they embodied.
On behalf of the executive and membership, please join me in extending our deepest condolences to both families, may comfort find them gently in the days ahead.
