Until 2012, the Ghost Pepper was thought to be the world’s hottest pepper, but that was shattered when the Trinidad Moruga “Scorpion” pepper was rated the hottest pepper in the world at 1.2 million Scoville units. The New Mexico State University — the only international, non-profit scientific organization devoted to education and research related to Capsicum or chili peppers — tested the pepper, which ranks as high as 2,009,231 SHU on the Scoville scale! Sure gives the song Hot! Hot! Hot! new meaning for us!
